Premium Oil-Based Timber Stain with Rich Translucent Color in 2 Coats & Breathable Film that Resists Peeling & CrackingSashco Transformation Log & Timber Stain is the ideal timber stain for log homes and timber frames. This high-performance oil-based timber stain brings back the rich, natural beauty of weathered logs. You get deep translucent color in just two coats. The flexible, breathable film strongly resists peeling and cracking. It delivers proven long-term durability – even in harsh Canadian winters and intense summer sun.
In real-world testing at mile-high elevation in Denver (25–30% more UV than sea level, plus heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles), Transformation Log & Timber Stain outperformed every other leading stain on the racks. It showed the best color retention, no peeling or cracking, and the richest look after two full years of extreme weather.
Why Transformation is the Ideal Timber Stain for Log Homes in Canada
Transformation lives up to its name. It turns gray, faded logs into vibrant, like-new wood that lasts for years. This oil-based timber stain penetrates deep and forms a flexible film that moves with the wood. That means it greatly resists peeling and cracking – problems you often see with cheaper timber stains.
Canadian contractors and homeowners love it for the exceptional UV protection, strong water resistance, and easiest maintenance of any premium timber stain. Just clean the surface and apply a fresh coat – no stripping or sanding ever needed.

Stain Calculator
Measured Square Footage
Take each wall and multiply length x height. Example 40' long x 10' high= 400 sq. ft.
Add each wall together Example 400 + 400 + 250 + 250 = 1300 sq. ft.
For each of your gable ends (the triangles) use Base x Height/2
Example 30' x 15' = 450'/2 = 225 sq ft. Add all areas together.
Adjust for Type of Log
A round log has a different surface area than a flat timber. We must account for the curvature and size of the log so we don't end up short on stain. Select your log type
Maintenance Coat
Most maintenance coats are done with one coat, often clear. If you plan to add a coat of color and a clear, feel free to ask one of our specialists for some advice.
Surface Condition
Rough logs will take more stain than smooth logs. If your logs are rough, check off the box and it will calculate based on a rough surface.
Note: All calculations are estimated. Actual coverage will vary based on surface condition, species and moisture content.

Pierre Sawyer –
Our home has Sikkens on it but we could not find any this year. We called and they told us the Transformation was compatible over top. We used the Gold Tone light over the Natural color and it looks fantastic. Glad to hear other options that are ok over top of Sikkens as not much works.
Murray Jardine –
We have been using Transformation Log and Timber on our home for close to 15 years and still love it. Love the way it makes the logs look and we don’t seem to have to do maintenance nearly as much as our neighbors.
Nathan Hornby –
We recently did a restoration of an old family cabin. We weren’t able to get all of the old stain off, but did get most of it. They recommended this oil-based stain over top and we couldn’t be happier. It looks great and didn’t have any compatiility problems. Thank you! Very good product and help.
Joe Evans –
We just finished restoring our log home using Sashco Transformation Log & Timber, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The color is rich and vibrant, and it brought our weathered wood back to life like new. It went on smoothly and we had great coverage. Best of all, we love knowing it will hold up for years with just simple maintenance. Our neighbors have already asked what we used. Highly recommend!
