Sashco’s Capture is a high-performance water-based stain designed specifically for log homes, timbers, and wood siding. Now with Sashco’s Flex Tint system, contractors and homeowners can tint their stain on-site, eliminating delays and increasing efficiency.
What Makes Sashco Stain Capture/Cascade Unique?
Sashco Capture sets itself apart with unmatched elasticity, making it resistant to peeling and cracking as logs move and shift over time. It’s designed for all vertical woodwork, interior and exterior, and preserves the wood’s natural glow without hiding the grain. The optional Flex Tint system revolutionizes jobsite convenience—contractors can store neutral base on-hand and tint as needed onsite, eliminating costly delays caused by color changes or miscalculations. Flex Tint delivers consistent results and the same durability as pre-tinted Capture.

For uneven fading, spot-coat with Capture, feather the edges, then apply Cascade over the whole surface. Full re-staining is not required if regular maintenance is performed every few years. Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Capture different from other log stains?
Its elastic formula allows it to move with the logs, preventing peeling and cracking over time.
Can I use Capture inside my home?
Yes, it’s ideal for both exterior and interior vertical wood surfaces.
What is Flex Tint?
Flex Tint is Sashco’s onsite tinting system that lets you mix stain colors directly at the jobsite using neutral base and color cartridges.
How do I use Flex Tint?
Empty one 10.5 oz. cartridge into a 5-gal pail of Capture Neutral Base and mix for 5–7 minutes with a drill mixer.
Is Cascade required over Capture?
Yes. Cascade adds water repellency and UV resistance for long-term exterior protection.
Can I apply Capture in cold weather?
Apply only when surface and air temperatures are above 4°C (40°F) and no rain or freezing conditions are expected for 48 hours.
How long does Capture take to dry?
It’s dry to the touch in 30 minutes or less but may remain tacky until top-coated with Cascade.
How do I maintain the finish over time?
Inspect yearly. Clean and reapply Cascade as needed, typically every 3–5 years.
Can I use a power sprayer to apply it?
Yes, use a large tip (515 or 517), then back-brush immediately to ensure proper adhesion.
What surfaces should not be stained with Capture?
It’s not for horizontal surfaces like decks, and it should not be applied over waxy, oily, or silicone-treated wood.
Take each wall and multiply length x height. Example 40' long x 10' high= 400 sq. ft.
Add each wall together Example 400 + 400 + 250 + 250 = 1300 sq. ft.
For each of your gable ends (the triangles) use Base x Height/2 Example 30' x 15' = 450'/2 = 225 sq ft. Add all areas together.
Adjust for Type of Log
A round log has a different surface area than a flat timber. We must account for the curvature and size of the log so we don't end up short on stain. Select your log type
Maintenance Coat
Most maintenance coats are done with one coat, often clear. If you plan to add a coat of color and a clear, feel free to ask one of our specialists for some advice.
Surface Condition
Rough logs will take more stain than smooth logs. If your logs are rough, check off the box and it will calculate based on a rough surface.
Note: All calculations are estimated. Actual coverage will vary based on surface condition, species and moisture content.

This stuff is incredible and as stretchy as they show in the video. We read the head to head testing, read all the reviews on this and we have to say we are very impressed with it. We had Capture/Cascade on our last home and decided to go with it again as it lasted very long and was super easy and inexpensive to maintain. Great product!
