Sansin Timber-Tec Chinking is a flexible, high-performance sealant for log homes that resists cracking and weather damage. It can be applied in cold temperatures down to –1°C and is available in seven natural colors for a durable, breathable, and authentic-looking finish.
Sansin Timber-Tec Chinking
Sansin Timber-Tec Chinking is a flexible, elastomeric chinking designed to provide a weather-tight, long-lasting seal between logs in both new construction and restoration projects. This water-borne formula delivers outstanding adhesion and breathability while accommodating log movement caused by seasonal expansion and contraction.
Engineered to withstand extreme climates, Timber-Tec can be applied in temperatures as low as –1°C and cures into a resilient, paintable joint. It’s easy to apply and tool, with excellent UV resistance, color retention, and crack resistance. Timber-Tec is available in 7 natural log color options and can be textured for a traditional or contemporary appearance.
What Makes Timber-Tec Chinking Unique?
Unlike traditional mortar or rigid sealants, Timber-Tec remains permanently flexible and moves with the log structure without cracking or separating. It’s easy to gun, even in cold conditions, and cures into a durable, weather-tight joint that resists water, air, and UV damage. Its breathability allows moisture vapor to escape while preventing liquid water infiltration, helping maintain log integrity over time.
Key Benefits of Timber-Tec Chinking

Application Notes
- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, wax, or coatings. Moisture content should be below 20%.
- Backer Rod: Use closed-cell backer rod or bond breaker tape to control depth and prevent three-point adhesion.
- Tools: Apply using bulk gun or sausage gun. Tool using spatula, foam brush, or slicker within 30–60 minutes.
- Temperature Range: Apply between –1°C and 32°C (30°F to 90°F). Product should be warmed for ease of gunning below 5°C.
- Cure Time: Full cure in 3 days for ¾″ deep joints at 20°C/40% RH. May take up to 14 days in colder, damper conditions.
- Staining: Compatible with most breathable stains and finishes. Wait 3–7 days before overcoating.
