A Brief History of Sashco
The history of Sashco starts in 1936 in Denver, Colorado, when Donald J. Burch opened a small steel window business. He named it the Colorado Steel Sash Company. Back then, steel was a new and popular material for windows among homeowners in North America.
Burch was an English major from UCLA and the University of Denver. Therefore, he lacked the necessary skills or knowledge to lead his business successfully. However, he learned everything there was to know about chemistry, coating, and glazes. After that, he came up with a unique recipe for steel sash putty.
Steadily, Burch realized that he enjoys making sash putty more than selling windows. So, he focused on improving the putty formula and quickly garnered significant commercial success. Meanwhile, more and more people were referring to his inventions as Sashco products.
In 1954, Burch died in a private plane crash. His innovations sadly had come to an end after tremendous success. However, his business had already extended across all North America, from south Texas to Canada. His surviving widow, Alice Hauptman took over the business reigns and guided it to further success.
In 1973, the Colorado Steel Sash Company officially became Sashco, Inc. During the next decades, the company continued to expand and deliver more top-quality products worldwide. Nowadays, the president of the company is Alice’s son, Lee Burch.
